Hey babes! I am packing for my first ever trip to Tulum and I wanted to share some of my packing tips and must have items with you! By the end of this post you will know it all! From the weather in Tulum based on seasons to the essentials that you need to have ahead of your trip. I got you covered!

THINGS TO KNOW | PANDEMIC

DO I NEED TO SELF-QUARANTINE OR HAVE A NEGATIVE COVID-19 TEST?

As of early January 2020, travelers to Mexico are not required to self-quarantine or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test in order to visit  the country but you may find  yourself  subject to health screenings at airports and other points of entry. But please note that this could change as COVID-19 regulations are adjusting rapidly given the new administration and rising cases.

During my flight, I was provided an  online health form similar to this one  found on the  Berry Appleman & Leiden website. This form is  a requirement for entry and exit of Mexico.

A majority of states in Mexico are under the “orange” designation, which means hotels and restaurants are operating at 50% capacity. Markets and supermarkets will operate at 75% capacity. Malls, theaters and museums are also limited to 25% capacity.

I can assure you that all of the establishments, hotels, and even cab rides demand that you have your mask on at all times, utilize hand sanitizer, and in close quarters social distance.

The CDC urges passengers to avoid nonessential travel.

WEATHER

According to Accuweather, because of the tropical climate seen in Tulum the weather is pretty consistent year-round. With rainy season from May to October and dry season from November to April. However, in December and January you may see rainfall, wind and cloudiness.

WHAT TO PACK

SUNSCREEN

Whether you’re doing a domestic trip to the beach or vacationing in Tulum, where there is sun exposure, there is a need for sunscreen!

I also highly recommend Biodegradable sunblock which is an environmentally friendly sunscreen that lacks the harmful ingredients that are destroying the world’s coral reefs.

I read online that the natural SPF protection from your complexion and any barrier to the sun from your clothes isn’t enough to protect you against UVA rays, which increase signs of aging, or UVB rays, which cause skin burns — The most SPF that your skin itself can offer — regardless of skin tone — is about SPF 13.

For the beach, I personally purchase supergoop’s brand of sunscreen because it comes with higher levels of protection. Dermatologist recommend a minimum of SPF 30 when it comes to sunscreen and SPF 50 if you’re planning to be outside for more than an hour.

Also it is suggested that you  reapply your sunscreen every two hours.

BUG REPELLENT

Not only should you protect your skin from the sun rays but from pesky bug bites too!

Keep in mind, Tulum is situated in the jungle, with no shortage of bugs. In my experience many of the establishments have bug repellant of their own in “smoke” form that they use to ward off bugs, but for your personal protection you can try a biodegradable repellent like this  .

When I am looking to protect myself in the US or on trips I personally buy the Ben’s 30% deet bug spray and you can also buy their wipes too. They work great for me in Florida.

POWER ADAPTER

You will need a EU to US travel adapter. However, if you’re from North America, you won’t need one when visiting Mexico because they have the same outlet plugs as we do in the U.S. and in Canada.

I personally have an “all in one” adapter that I can utilize in more than one destination.

PORTABLE BATTERY PACK

This item is a god send for travel especially when trying to keep your devices charged when you are on the go. I have (3) now that I’ve bought and kept over the course of my travels and I personally love them!

DELSEY LUGGAGE SET

I got a Delsey Luggage set over the holidays and sooo glad I did. It worked perfectly for my trip to Tulum.

Not only do I love how chic and stylish it is, but it is also super efficient for travelers.

With my set I was able to pack nearly a weeks worth of clothing, shoes, and personal care items. I am beyond impressed.

  • TSA-friendly combination lock
  • Stop & Go brake system
  • Expandable Zipper. An extra zipper around the case allows you to expand your case up to 2 inches (depends on the model).
  • Spinner wheels
  • Removable hanger, laundry and show bags.
  • Track your luggage: You can register your luggage set on the Delsey website as each suitcase features a tracking plate should your luggage get lost.
